Our custom-made biomimetic fillings mirror the natural behaviours and functions of real teeth.

With biomimetic methods, we can help to ensure your filling is up to the task of protecting and preserving your tooth and oral health.

Introducing… Biomimetic Fillings

  • Treatment: addresses the issue of decay/strengthening weak teeth.
  • Treatment time: 1-2 appointments.
  • Duration of results: 5-10years
  • Benefits: prevents a tooth from failing/restores the form and function of a tooth.
Key benefit: made using biomimetic principles (our fillings emulate the characteristics of real teeth).

What Are Biomimetic Fillings?

In using biomimetic dentistry, our goal is to mimic the natural components of a tooth as closely as possible (bio-mimetic).

The materials used are chosen for their biomechanical properties, and for their ability to work synergistically with the natural structures in your mouth.

These materials are placed in a way that reduces stress on the tooth, which aids in increasing the lifespan and long-term structure of your filling.

The adhering methods used as part of biomimetic dentistry also play a key part in ensuring your risk of post-treatment sensitivity is reduced. We use high-tech adhesives that seal in your natural tooth dentine, reducing the possibility of bacteria accessing your tooth.

Why Choose Biomimetic Fillings?

Biomimetic fillings have several significant benefits over traditional fillings:

  • Improved resistance to staining.
  • Gentle placement techniques that do not damage your natural tooth structure.
  • Less prone to cracking and contracting.
  • Support and seal the tooth (preventing bacteria from entering and compromising your tooth in the future).
  • Reduce tooth sensitivity.

Biomimetic Filling Process

  • Evaluation
One of our experienced practitioners will evaluate your teeth, taking X-rays and conducting a thorough examination of your mouth. Your dentist can then act quickly to start the process of restoring your tooth.
  • Rehabilitating your Tooth
Your dentist will remove any decayed substance affecting the tooth and identify where the tooth has sustained cracks or fractures. The decay is removed under local anaesthetic, and the tooth is cleaned.

Why Choose S&A Smile Clinic for Biomimetic Fillings?

We are a biomimetic clinic, and all our clinicians are trained to provide minimalistic, mimicking treatment that reestablishes the strength, function and aesthetics of a tooth/teeth. Fixing our patients’ smiles is an art, and it’s our pleasure to restore compromised teeth to give you the confidence you deserve to experience every day.

We are great believers in using biomimetic principles to treat and protect our patients’ smiles wherever possible.

Biomimetic materials and methods create unique restorations that:

  • Are harmonious with your natural teeth and soft tissues.
  • Preserve the natural tooth structure they are supporting.
  • Look and feel as tooth-like as possible.
  • Imitate nature as closely as possible.

FAQs

Will My Filling Look Natural?

Yes. Your dentist will take every care to ensure your new filling is a natural-looking match for your existing tooth structures, and your smile as a whole. This involves making sure the shape and curvature of your filling are keeping with that of your natural teeth, and that the shade is a match for your smile as a whole.

How Do I Look After My Filling?

Whilst your filling will mirror the strength of a real tooth, it will not be invincible. At SA Smile Clinic, providing patients with preventive guidance is as important as the treatment process itself.

We will offer you tailored long and short-term aftercare advice after your treatment, and at your routine check-ups.

Can I Have My Amalgam Fillings Swapped For a Biomimetic Filling?

Yes. We encourage patients to replace amalgam silver-looking fillings, as these can be highly destructive to their teeth.

As well as looking conspicuous in your mouth, amalgam fillings do not seal your tooth in the same protective way as a biomimetic filling. Your new biomimetic tooth-coloured filling will better-support your natural tooth and everyday demands such as biting and chewing.
