What is Invisalign®?

The ideal clear aligner teeth straightening system for the patient who wants:

  • A discreet treatment
  • A treatment that works around their lifestyle
  • A metal-free treatment

Many people feel that crooked teeth are a barrier to feeling at ease in their skin.

Invisalign® can unlock your confidence, helping you to feel comfortable with your smile in the long term.

With a smile you feel proud of, you will find you no longer feel the need to cover your smile around others.
For many of our patients, this becomes a gift that keeps on giving for life.

Invisalign® clear aligners are made based on digital scans of your teeth.
Each aligner is made using patented SmartTrackTM thermoplastic and gradually moves your teeth.

Every 1-2 weeks you will change your aligner over to the next in the sequence,
with each one moving your teeth gradually into position by applying gentle force.

What can Invisalign® fix?

invisalign before after

Crowded teeth

Crowded teeth is a condition where you do not have enough room for your teeth to fit normally. This can cause plaque or tartar and other harmful bacteria to build up as it is harder for you to brush and floss well.

invisalign before after

Gaps between teeth

Gaps between teeth is when there is extra space between two or more of your teeth. This can cause pockets between your teeth and gums and can cause food to get stuck making them tender and sore. This might also lead to gum disease.

invisalign before after

Open bite

An Open bite is when your upper and lower teeth don't touch when you close your mouth. An open bite can make it hard for you to chew or difficult to bite even the most common of food like apples.

invisalign before after

Underbite

An underbite is when you close your mouth and your lower front teeth are in front of your upper teeth. In many cases, this is actually a problem with your lower jaw being too far forward. An underbite can make it hard to chew properly and speak clearly, and it might cause your teeth to wear down more quickly.

Overbite

An overbite is when your upper front teeth overlap with your lower front teeth. Most people have at least a little overbite. When your overbite is too large, your doctor might tell you you have a deep bite. This can cause problems, from your teeth wearing down to pain in your jaw.

Crossbite

A crossbite is when you close your mouth and yet some of your upper teeth are sitting inside your lower teeth rather than on the outside. A crossbite can make your teeth wear down or chip. It can also make your gums start to recede or make little notches above your gum line. This kind of damage can lead to painful gum problems or even bone loss.

FAQs

1. Are there other types of clear aligner systems?

Yes. We also offer alternative clear aligner systems to Invisalign® to treat less severe cases of malocclusion (the clinical term for misalignment and issues with your bite). Your dentist will talk you through all the options, as well as the advantages of each system to help you decide how you would like to proceed.

2. Are Invisalign® aligners uncomfortable?

You may feel some slight tenderness during the first few days of wearing a new aligner in the sequence. Most patients get used to wearing them very quickly, and any discomfort can be controlled with over-the-counter painkillers.

3. Can I eat normally with Invisalign®?

Yes. You have the freedom to continue eating completely normally when you choose Invisalign® for teeth straightening. Take your aligners out before eating and drinking and make sure you brush your teeth after each meal. This will prevent any food particles from becoming lodged between the gaps in your teeth and causing potential decay.

4. How do I care for my aligner?

Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a small amount of toothpaste to clean your aligners each time you remove them. Store your aligners in the box provided by your dentist anytime you are not wearing them.

5. How often do I need to see my dentist?

You will need to attend check-ups every 4-6 weeks during your treatment journey. Your dentist will confirm that your teeth are moving into the correct positions, and thoroughly ensure no signs of decay or gum disease are evolving.
