It’s our privilege to help your child achieve and maintain healthy teeth and gums.

Our dentists love working with children and have a gentle and compassionate chairside manner.

Supporting Your Child In Their Early Years

We understand the scary sense of the unknown that can come when your first child’s first tooth comes through. At SA Smile Clinic, we will build up your child’s confidence and go entirely at their pace.

It’s very common for children not to allow the dentist to examine them during their first few appointments. The main aim of these early visits is to build up their confidence and get them used to the dental practice environment.

Introducing SA Smile Clinic’s Tiny Teeth Wellness Programme

At SA Smile Clinic, we have developed our Tiny Teeth Wellness Programme for children and parents as part of our Prevention and Education initiative.

What Happens At My Child’s Dental Check-Ups?

During your child’s visit, we will:

  • Check their teeth over for signs of decay.
  • Ensure their teeth are coming through without any occlusal issues (this is the clinical name for problems with how their teeth bite together).
  • Recommend treatments to prevent further decay such as sealants and fluoride toothpaste.
  • Offer preventive guidance to minimise the risk of decay and ultimately, tooth loss. Sadly, tooth decay remains the primary reason why 5 to 9-year-olds have to attend hospital appointments to have their teeth extracted. Our dentists are passionate about doing their bit to cut this statistic down as much as possible.

Supporting Parents and Guardians

We know being a parent can be hard work, particularly when you’re trying to establish healthy habits when you’re young.

We believe in working closely with parents and guardians to support your child’s at-home oral care efforts. We can offer guidance if you are finding it challenging to encourage your child to brush twice a day at home, such as using brushing apps and positive reinforcement techniques.

FAQs

When should I bring my child in for their first dentist appointment?

We recommend bringing your child in when their first tooth has come through. This will give them the chance to adapt to the dental practice environment and allow their dentist to make sure their tooth has erupted correctly.

How often does my child need to see a dentist?

2 annual visits are recommended for your child.

This is to ensure issues such as decay cannot escalate and cause what can be traumatic symptoms for your child, hindering their development and their oral health in the future. Prevention is key.
